Dress Code

WHY DO WE HAVE A DRESS CODE?

Our dance dress code is more than just attire, it’s a key element in the language of movement. Our carefully curated dress code ensures that dancers feel comfortable, confident and ready to take on the dance floor.

"16X2" Performance Rental

Dovetail will be offering the second weekend of each month at a discounted rate. Artists will get a total of 9 hrs of tech separated into two nights and two performance evenings at 5hrs per evening, a total of 19 hrs in the space, every second weekend of the month (16X2). The rental fee for 16X2 is $800. Tech Times are the following: Wed + Thurs at 11:30am – 4pm or 8pm – 12:30am.

Dovetail provides lights, a sound system, curtains, a house manager, and chairs for your performance. Artists must hire their own TD/lighting designer.

To be considered for this program you can be an independent artist or company of any movement form. Those participating may share the weekend with one other artist/company. This program is not meant for festivals but rather for artists to have an affordable option to present their work in an intimate setting.

For May - September 2025, it will be first come first serve. Dates are below:

UNITY.

Just like sports teams, when dancers are in matching items it makes them feel like part of a group or special club. They feel a stronger sense of belonging, community, and camaraderie in class. It creates a bond between the dancers.

02

CONFIDENCE.

Similar to costumes for the recital, the right outfit makes a dancer feel more confident in class. Simply putting on proper dance attire boosts the dancer’s self-esteem.

RESPECT.

Part of being in a dance class is respecting the art form and learning to follow instructions.

03

04

FOCUS.

Having all dancers in a consistent look helps their concentration and lessens distraction. When a student puts on their outfit, it puts them in the frame of mind for dance class.

POSTURE.

The dress code is designed for teachers to see the movement and lines of the dancers. In order to provide proper corrections, we must be able to see body alignment.

HISTORY.

Tradition in any art form is important to follow. Did you know in ballet that tights and leotards date back 100’s of years?
