Dance Classes

Tiny Tots

Ages 18 months- 6 years

Tiny Tots is a creative movement class that encourages self-discipline and self-confidence while incorporating coordination, large motor skills and rhythm. Children will learn movement skills through music, stories and imaginative games. Props such as bean-bags, hula-hoops, and parachutes will be used to explore different movement qualities, shapes, levels and dynamics.
Dancers in this class are required to be potty trained and be able to participate in the class without their parent in the room.

Pre Ballet 1/2

Ages 18 months- 6 years

Pre ballet classes are an introduction to ballet technique. Students will begin to learn the foundations of the ballet technique including proper posture, upper and lower body positions, and locomotor steps, while continuing to use props and playing fun games.
Registration required, repeatable. One class per week.Dancers in this class are required to be potty trained and be able to participate in the class without their parent in the room.

Pre Hip Hop

Ages 18 months- 6 years

Pre Hip Hop is an introduction to the street/hip hop techniques. This class is packed with fun while learning skills to develop agility, rhythm, creativity and spunk.

Pre Musical Theater Dance/Tap

Ages 18 months- 6 years

Bring your little one, ages 18 months to 2 years old on Saturday mornings for this special movement class, taught by M.K. Victorson. All little ones love to move and this is a special way to connect with your toddler. Class meets on Saturdays from 11 – 11:45am for 4 weeks.
M.K. Victorson is a veteran Chicago arts educator whose experience spans dance studios, arts organizations, and ten years as a CPS arts teacher. She is an Arts Instruction Specialist with the CPS Office of Arts Education and has been.

Itty Bitty

Ages 18 months- 6 years

Let's Get Funky: an Introduction to Music for Kids

Ages 18 months- 6 years

Music is for everyone, of all ages. Music has been proven to enhance mood, cognitive skills, confidence, reduce stress, foster problem solving skills, increase motivation, and aid in emotional development. The foundations of which are skills that children as young as 3 can start to explore and enjoy. “Let’s Get Funky” is a class designed to teach children the basics of music; from counting & signing, to music history to rhythm, and even performing in a group! The class is recommended for children ages 3-4 or 4 – 6, taught by professional musicians with training in early childhood development.

Pre Ballet/Jazz

Ages 18 months- 6 years

Students will begin to learn the foundations of the ballet technique including proper posture, upper and lower body positions, and locomotor steps, while continuing to use props and playing fun games. Students will build on ballet fundamentals with a focus on jazz-specific skills such as isolations, flexibility, and floor combinations. The class will include warm-ups, muscle strengthening, and across-the-floor drills.

Winter Session Dates

Winter Session Dates: Jan 12 – May 29th

Spring Break: March 16th – March 29th

Memorial Day: May 26th

Recital Dress Rehearsal: May 30th

Recital: May 31st

What’s my level placement?

Our general protocol for level placement is that a dancer must complete one full year (Fall & Winter session) of Level 1 to move up to Level 2, etc.

Please note, you must still follow our age guidelines for each class:

To join Tiny Tots, dancer must turn 3 by or before January 12th

To join Tiny Dancer, dancer must turn 2 by the start of the session (January or March)

To join Pre classes, dancer must turn 5 by or before February 1st

To join Youth classes, dancer must turn 7 by or before February 15th

To join Youth Level 3 classes, dancer must take at least 2 – 3 classes per week.

Winter 2025 Payment

You have two options of payment for this session:

paid in full, or
paying a deposit of 50% at registration and the second portion two months later.

Class Pricing

We stand by our incredibly talented instructors and firmly believe in providing a living wage for each, even in times of crisis. And during the COVID-19 pandemic, artists have been the hardest hit with very little support from local and national agencies. Our pricing reflects our belief in supporting the hard work of these instructors and the extra energy that goes into providing safety measures for everyone connected to Dovetail.

45 min class = $24/class

60 min class = $27/class

75 min class = $31.25/class

Adult 60 min class = $18/class

Adult 75 min class = $20/class

Can I make up a missed class?

Yes. To schedule a makeup class, please email dovetailstudios@gmail.com. All makeups must be completed by Thanksgiving Break. There are only 4 make ups allowed per session. And dancers must makeup in a class of a similar level or age group. Make ups do not roll over to the next session.

Dress Code Requirements

For all classes, a strict dress code is required.
